1. I'd like to change the order of the channels in MyUNIverse. Can I do that?
Yes, you can change the order that channels appear in each column as well as move channels between the columns. Click on the [Change Layout] button near the top of your portal. You will
be presented with a screen listing the current contents of each of the columns. Select a channel by highlighting it, then click the [UP] or [DN] buttons to change the position within a column. Click the [>>]
or [<<] buttons to move a channel between columns. When you are satisfied with the layout, click the [Finished Editing] button to save your changes.
Note: Channels that you have chosen not to display will not appear in the column listings (see item 2 below).
2. I have channels that I never use on my portal. Isn't there some way to hide them?
Yes, you may hide a channel from appearing on your portal. Click on the [Choose Content] button near the top of the screen. You will be presented with a listing of all of the channels currently available to you. Unchecking and checking
a channel will hide or display that channel on your portal. Click the [Finished Editing] button to save your changes.
3. How do I add a personal link to MyUNIverse?
Click on the [Edit] button that appears in the purple bar of the My Personal Links channel. You will be presented with a form for entry of
up to three personal links at a time. Be sure to type a URL (which usually begins with "http://") and a description of how your want your link displayed. Click the [Finished Editing] button when done.
4. How do I remove a personal link from MyUNIverse?
You may remove links from being displayed by using the [Edit] button on the purple bar of the My Personal Links channel.
The edit screen shows any personal links you may have added. Unchecking a link will remove it from being
displayed on your portal. Click the [Finished Editing] button when done.
Note: Personal links that are subsequently deleted are not stored with your portal information and will need
to be re-added with the procedure listed in question 3 above if you later decide to add them back into your portal.
5. Is my personal information secure?
The University of Northern Iowa has implemented sophisticated measures, including a powerful encryption process, to help protect the confidentiality of online inquiries and transactions.
Access to your customized MyUNIverse requires entry of your login and password. Until you choose to logout or the timeout period is reached, many of the links within
MyUNIverse are then available to you without requiring you to login again each time. A period of inactivity will cause your session to expire and
you will then be required to login again.
Note: Users must take reponsibility to protect their personal records when being accessed from public computers. Always remember to log out of the system
when finished and then close the browser. Additional security information is available from the Site Security
help page.
6. Why do I have to keep logging in to links once I've logged into MyUNIverse?
Once you've logged into MyUNIverse, many applications (ie: update my personal information, time sheet, ad board, online job board, Panther Auction, etc.) and your personal reports
(ie: grades, degree audit, direct deposit, fringe benefit statement, etc.) are available to you without having to log in again. If you are continually being prompted to log in again
with the MyUNIverse login page, this may be a result of having a spyware program such as Gator.exe installed on your computer. Please see this important notice for instructions for resolving
this problem.
Other applications, such as access to your e-mail and all mainframe transactions (ie: registration, financial aid award notification, etc.), are currently not linked to your
MyUNIverse log in and do require a separate log in. The difference is the login screen to these applications is not the same as the MyUNIverse login screen.
